Is that a Coolibah tree beside the abandoned house? Every Australian knows about Coolibah trees because the bush ballad Waltzing Matilda is nigh on our unoffical national anthem but most of us live nowhere near the inland where they grow. Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, Under the shade of a Coolibah tree, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.
"To muse, to creep, to halt at will, to gaze ... such sweet wayfaring"
William Wordsworth
I would have recognised that profile ANYWHERE!
ReplyDeleteI would love to go the Grampians as well. Red from Oz has some terrific posts about them.
ReplyDeleteAnother fortnight another flood, still raining, we are all so over it up on the North Coast.
You must . It is a beautiful area. Great for walking, driving and camping but the trouble is everyone in Victoria thinks the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThe good old Grampians - how I do love them.
ReplyDeleteWhen you visit - go in November - lots of native flowers.
And travel the road from Maroona to Dunkeld - you get a wonderful view of the expanse of the mountains.
